The desk was made with 2 oak pallets and rough cut oak beams. The
desk took awhile to make, since we were still looking for additional
oak pallets. The majority of the ones we come across are pine, so we
waited it out to find the perfect match. My husband found an ad on
craigslist of someone selling rough cut oak beams they had left over
from cutting down trees on their land. We were in luck. These were
exactly what we have been looking for. Our goal is try to stay away from
the big box stores if possible, and its much cheaper with reclaimed items.
Not to mention if our children some how damage it, the ding
on desk only adds character and/or is easily fixable.
We still have a couple of beams left, and I have many more projects
left for my husband to build. :)
